The text line by line, then its key words.
Shir hama'alot beshuv Adonai et-shivat tsiyon hayinu kecholemim
A song of ascents. When the Lord brought back the exiles of Zion, we were like dreamers.
Az yimale sechok pinu ulshonenu rina,
Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with song.
Az yomeru vagoyim higdil Adonai la'asot im-ele
Then they said among the nations: the Lord has done great things for these.
Higdil Adonai la'asot imanu, hayinu semechim
The Lord has done great things for us; we were glad.
Shuva Adonai et-shevitenu ka'afikim banegev
Bring back our exiles, Lord, like streams in the Negev.
Hazore'im bedima, berina yiktsoru
Those who sow in tears will reap in song.

Veshameru venei yisra'el et haShabbat.
The children of Israel shall keep the Shabbat,
La'asot et haShabbat ledorotam berit olam
making the Shabbat throughout their generations an everlasting covenant.
Beini uvein benei yisra'el ot hi leolam
Between Me and the children of Israel it is a sign forever,
for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth,
Uvayom hashevi'i shavat vayinafash
and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.
Zachor et yom haShabbat lekadesho.
Remember the Shabbat day to keep it holy.
Sheshet yamim ta'avod ve'asita kol melachtecha.
Six days you shall work and do all your work,
Veyom hashevi'i Shabbat l'Adonai elohecha
but the seventh day is a Shabbat to the Lord your God.
Lo ta'ase chol melacha ata uvincha uvitecha
You shall do no work: you, your son and your daughter,
Avdecha va'amatecha uvhemtecha vegerecha asher bisharecha
your servant and your maid, your animals, and the stranger within your gates.
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth,
Et hayam ve'et kol asher bam vayanach bayom hashevi'i
the sea and all that is in them, and He rested on the seventh day.
Al ken berach Adonai et yom haShabbat vaykadeshehu
Therefore the Lord blessed the Shabbat day and made it holy.
Savri maranan verabanan verabotai
Attention, my masters, rabbis and teachers:
Baruch ata Adonai eloheinu melech haolam bore peri hagafen
